TYPES OF FOUNDATION IN CONSTRUCTION

TYPES OF FOUNDATION:
  • DEEP FOUNDATION
  • SHALLOW FOUNDATION

When the soil beneath a structure is too weak to support on shallow foundation, the depth of   foundation has to be increased till more suitable soils met with, such as foundation is termed deep   foundation in view of its increased depth. Piles,Wells and  caissons are example of deep foundations.

 types of deep foundation
  • deep footing
  • pile
  • pier
  • caissons well foundation
  1. Pile named based on load transfer
  2. Laterally Loaded Piles and Batter Piles; Racker Piles
  3. uplift capacity of piles: tension piles
SHALLOW FOUNDATION:

  • FOOTING
  • RAFT
  FOOTING:

FOOTING is defined as a structure constructed in brickwork, masonry or concrete under         the base of a wall or column for the purpose of distributing the load over a larger area
   RAFT:

A RAFT foundation, also called a mat foundation, is essentially a continuous slab resting on the soil that extends over the entire footprint of the building, thereby supporting the building and transferring its weight to the ground. ... This reduces the stress on the soil.

   TYPES OF FOOTING:
  • spread footing
  • strap footing
  • combine footing
  Types of spread footing
  • isolated footing
  • strip/continuous footing
 TYPES OF COMBINE FOOTING:
  • rectangular footing
  • trapezoidal footing
  TYPES OF RAFT:
  • conventional
  • buoyancy
